Noted For: major-league pitcher (1963-89); teams include the Chicago White Sox (1965-71), Los Angeles Dodgers (1972-74, 1976-78), New York Yankees (1979-82, 1986-89), and three others. Four-time National League All-Star (1968, 1978-80). In 1974, he underwent a novel reconstructive surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow on his pitching arm. That surgery, named after him, is now commonly performed on baseball pitchers and other athletes.
